Minister Nabakooba launches national cleaning days initiative in Mityana District

The Minister for lands, Housing and Urban development who also serves as the Woman member of Parliament Mityana District Hon Judith Nabakooba Nalule, has today in Mityana District presided over the launch of the National Cleaning Days initiative, aimed at promoting sanitation and hygiene across the district and the launch was conducted at Mityana taxi parker and in the central markert. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Prosy Mwanjuzi, District Chairperson Hon Joseph Luzige, Town Clerk Mityana Municipality, Deputy Mayor Mityana Municipality and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the launch, Hon Minister Nabakooba thanked the prime minister for the initiative, and she said that the clean-up exercise will be conducted on the last Saturday of every month throughout Mityana district. She urged all the people in Mityana district to actively participate, in this exercise emphasizing that the initiative is for the benefit of everyone.
Hon Nabakooba thanked all the residents who turned up in big numbers to participate in the launch, and she said that this should not stop only on cleaning on the last Saturday of the month, but residents should clean themselves every day.
“I want to thank you for taking part in this important exercise. The implementation of this initiative will improve public health, reduce the burden of preventable diseases, lower household and government expenditure on treatment, and contribute to a cleaner environment.”

Minister said that they found out many places when they are very dirty and need to keep them clean, she mentioned places like the Markert place where they found a lot of wastes and encouraged those working in such places to keep them clean.

The deputy Resident District Commissioner Prosy Mwanjuzi thanked the Hon Minister Nabakooba for honouring the invitation as the guest and she said that as the district they are going to put in order the order that was passed by the prime minister for cleaning every month.
She said that they are going to be moving in every sub county when they are cleaning and asked other sub county to do the same.

She cautioned those who think that they will dodge the cleaning that they will handle them in a special way.
The Mityana district chairperson Joseph Luzige while addressing the residents thanked all the residents who turned up in big numbers to participate in the cleaning of their park and thanked the schools who sent the children to also participate in the same initiative.
Chairperson Luzige said that as the district they are not going to allow any body they find when they have waste in their places and urged all residents especially those with shops to come and clean around their shops.

He added that they are going to adjust the time and the method of cleaning because some failed to come to their shops to clean them and he said that they are going to make announcements so that the traders can clean the places where they work from.
Deputy Mayor Mityana Municipality Alex Kibugo thanked those who turned up and participated in the cleaning and he said that as the municipality they have one service provider who deals in cleaning the municipality and does not clean all the municipality that’s why they have advertised to get other service providers who can help in cleaning in other divisions.
He added that the big challenge they have they don’t have trucks that can help in removing the waste when collected and asked the government to help them and give them some trucks to help in the cleaning.
