Mityana district launch the distribution of hand hoes to the leaders

Mityana District has today launched the distribution of hand hoes in the district for the farmers to benefit from the government initiative.

The launch was presided over by the Resident district commissioner who was represented by the Assistant Resident District Commissioner Augustine Kwizera, The district Chairperson Hon Luzige Joseph, Presidential advisor Jane Ssenoga, Members of Parliament Hon Lukyamuzi Kwalanga, Hon Makumbi Kamya, Municipality mayors and lower local government chairpersons.

While launching the ARDC Augustine Kwizera has warned the locals who are going to receive the hoes not to sale them for alcohol but to use them for food consumption. “I warn you, take these hoe home, it is meant for the use so as to increase production of food, this is from government,” said ARDC.

He went further to ask leaders to engage in the exercise of distributing the hoes and asked them not to politicize the exercise.

The district Chairperson Joseph Luzige thanked the government of Uganda headed by the president of Uganda for providing the hand hoes to Ugandans mainly the people of Mityana.

He said that the launch has come in time where people of Mityana want to improve their lives especially in Agriculture sector and ask those who are going to get the hoes to use the hoes for improving their homesteads.

He added that the as the district they are going to continue to lobby the government through the members of parliament to see that they bring projects that people can benefit from.

Hon Luzige said that the hoes were brought to remove people from poverty and encouraged them to use well the hoes as they are planning for other things to give them.

Secritary for Production and works Hon Jackline Maria Nampijja asked leaders to make sure that the hoes reach to the right people who have to benefit from this program.

On the issue of PDM Hon Nampijja asked leader to help the people in the villages so that they can register for them to get the money for PDM and asked them also to follow up on those who got first the money to recover back the money.

Hon Kalwanga Lukyamuzi member of parliament representing Busujju County thanked the government for the initiative and he said that agriculture is the back born of Uganda and advised the people in Mityana to use well the land they have so that they can put on productive goods that bring income to the families.

Hon Kamya Makumbi member of parliament representing Mityana south thanked the government for the good projects they are giving the district and he said that as members of parliament their role is to lobby the government to give them the projects that people in the district will benefit from and he said that they are working as a group though they have other members of parliament from other parties but when it comes to Issues of Mityana district they work as a group for the benefit of Mityana district district.

Mityana District Production Officer Mr Daniel Sseremba said that as the district they got 110400 hoes and these hoes were given out by the government of Uganda through the ministry of Agriculture.

He added that Hoes are distributed to individual households for farming and food security, and he said that they will give out these hoes to the sub county leaders and they are going to supply them from the parish training centres

Mr Sseremba said that the hoes are intended to help rural farmers boost production and improve household incomes. The tools are primarily distributed to local households based on household counts and poverty indices.

The hoes are meant to support farming and homestead income. Beneficiaries are strictly prohibited from selling these government-issued items.

He added that every constituency has got a specific number of hoes as follows;

Mityana Municipality got 20,000 hoes, Mityana south got 25000 hoes, Busujju got 30,400 hoes, Mityana North got 35000 hoes.

On PDM Mr Sseremba said that they have finished to train the beneficiaries and he said that they are not going to give out money to any beneficiary who has not trained. He added that they have started recovering the PDM funds and Mityana is among the top ten district who have performed well in recovering the funds and Mityana district has so far recovered 119,400,000 out of the 8 billion and they have made plans on how they are going to recover more money.
